The most asked questions in CBD, how much CBD shall I take? What strength CBD shall I use?

People can soon be overwhelmed at how many different CBD products and strengths are available. Unfortunately, there is no “one-size-fits-all” dosage for CBD. It greatly depends on a range of factors, including the symptoms being treated, body weight, tolerance and the potency of the CBD product, we are going to try break this down as simple as possibly for you.

The average CBD user takes an average of 10-50 mg per day. For some conditions like anxiety, arthritis, insomnia some users take up to 200mg per day and for serious conditions like pain and inflammation some users take as much as 200-400 mg per day.

The key to CBD dosage is finding what we call a “sweet spot” a sweet spot is where your body is taking in enough CBD for maximum effect but not wasting any. Everybody’s sweet spot will be different.  Basically, it takes some trial and error to find your “sweet spot”, you may need to experiment with different dosages and strengths before you find it, one of the simplest ways to find your sweet spot is to start low and work your way up unless you have more severe symptoms. So here is how to find your sweet spot in 2 easy steps.

Step 1: here is a rough guide on where to start your minimal CBD daily intake based on your bodyweight and symptoms.

SymptomsWeightWeightWeightWeightWeightWeight
Up to 25kg26 – 45kg46-65kg66-95kg96-125kg126kg+
Non / Mild10mg15mg20mg25mg30mg35mg
Medium20mg25mg30mg35mg40mg45mg
Severe30mg+35mg+40mg+45mg+50mg+55mg+

(the above dosages are approximations and highly subjective due to the nature of CBD consumption, always consult your doctor for professional medical advice)

Once you have your starting daily intake, we always recommend splitting that into three or  more dosages throughout the day, for example split your daily intake into three and take it morning, midday and night (see below on how to calculate your dosing).

Step 2: work your way up slowly

So basically, trying to put it simple as possibly our body chemistry affects how we react and experience CBD, for example one dosage of CBD oil might work for you but your friend might have no success with it, this is mainly because all of our bodies have different experience with medications, substances, vitamins and supplements. Therefore, you shouldn’t listen to other people’s dosages, what might work for your friend might not work for you, you may need a smaller or larger dose for the same experience.

This is why we try give you a guideline starting point based on your weight and symptom, from there you need to pay close attention to your bodies reaction to the CBD before increasing it, make sure you are comfortable with the dosage you are taking, if you feel that dosage is not working for you after a few days, slowly increase your dosage by 5mg per day, pay close attention to your body’s reaction and monitor it carefully until finding your sweet spot (a dosage that works for you). Do not be scared to up your CBD dosage, please do as much research as you can first or consult your doctor but there is minimal side effect to CBD even at a high dosage.

Talk to your doctor or healthcare professional!

If you are having any problem with CBD dosage always consult your doctor, they are there to help you. This is even more important if you have any existing medical conditions. Your doctor will have more information than anyone on your body’s possibly reactions to CBD and can provide you will more accurate dosage to help with unique conditions and situations.

How to calculate your dosage

Some products, such as CBD gummies or capsules tell you how much is in a single serving. For example, the tub of CBD capsules might indicate that there are 5 mg of CBD per capsule.

If you’re using CBD oil, it will come in a dropper bottle. The packaging will specify what strength the CBD oil is, from there you need to work out how many drops of that strength you need.

Here is how you work it out, one drop is about 0.05 millilitres (ml), That’s not a full dropper it’s just a single drop. This means that a 10 ml bottle of CBD oil contains 200 drops.

  • 1 drop of a 5% 500mg will contain roughly 2.5mg of CBD
  • 1 drop of a 10% 1000mg will contain roughly 5mg of CBD
  • 1 drop of a 20% 2000mg will contain roughly 10mg of CBD
  • 1 drop of a 30% 3000mg will contain roughly 15mg of CBD
  • 1 drop of a 40% 4000mg will contain roughly 20mg of CBD

For example, if your using our 10% 1000mg oil for a daily dosage of 50mg (we always recommend splitting that into three or more dosages throughout the day), you would need 10 drops.

So, morning 3 drops, midday 3 drops evening 4 drops.

The thing to remember is to start with the minimal intake based on your weight and symptom severity and then increase from there to get the desired effect on your body.

How to take your CBD oil

CBD oil drops should be taken under the tongue! This delivers the fasted route to the blood stream, if CBD oil is swallowed you lose some of the CBD content because it goes through the digestive system first.

Put your desired amount of CBD oil drops under the tongue and hold it there for 1 – 2 minutes before swallowing, this allows the CBD to enter the blood stream and not be wasted.
