How CBD Oil Can Help with Insomnia

A good night’s sleep. Waking up to a morning stretch with the sun beaming through the window, ready to seize the day. There’s no feeling quite like it.

And on the other end of the spectrum, we have Insomnia. The unending, frustrating feeling of being unable to fall asleep.

Lying awake for hours on end, tossing and turning, knowing you have that busy day ahead of you. This might be a one-off occurrence, maybe this happens to you every once in a while, or perhaps this is a regular issue for you and is driving you slowly out of your mind.

Don’t worry… you’re not alone. Did you know that over 50% of adults worldwide have suffered from some form of reoccurring or chronic insomnia at some point in their lives?

For some, the daily stresses of daily life; their job, home life, poor diet, irregular sleep schedule; can all contribute to acute bouts of insomnia, and for many, the problem, though debilitating for a time, can be solved by addressing some or all of these issues

But what if it doesn’t go away? For those experiencing the third, most harrowing form – Chronic insomnia – how do we treat that effectively and quickly, so that you can focus on getting back to the ‘real’ you, as fast as possible?

CBD can help.

A study published in 2019 from the University of Colorado explored the efficacy of utilising Cannabidiol to treat insomnia. Of all the participants, well over half reported feeling less anxiety and better-quality sleep. [For more on how CBD can help with Anxiety-related disorders, click here – link to anxiety blog]

So how does it work??

Scientifically speaking, we have several things working in tandem here. The CB1 and CB2 receptors in our brain, important parts of our bodies’ neurocannabinoid system, interact with the Cannabidiol present in our CBD oil, upping serotonin levels and quieting our overactive amygdalas.

All this helps to create a state of calmness and contentment without impairing cognitive function, meaning you can stay clear-headed whilst settling down for the night – particularly helpful for those suffering from mental health and depression-induced insomnia.

Beyond this point, at least in relation to insomnia, the scientific community is still working on pinpointing the exact processes involved, but research is steady and positive.

Thus far the evidence shows it does help without little to no side effects, and with further research into the exact mechanisms involved in CBD and insomnia, our customers can rest ever more assured, that CBD remains an effective, safe and reliable treatment for anxiety and sleep disorders
