Why CBD Could Be Beneficial For Athletes and Fitness

A Quick Introduction to CBD

CBD oil and its products are fast becoming one of the hottest consumer supplements of the decade.

It’s close ancestral relationship to humans, both biologically and physiologically, as well as it’s potency, efficacy and safety make CBD the perfect addition to anyone looking to help treat a variety of illnesses from Arthritis to Insomnia.

CBD oil principally, is Cannabidiol, a clinically extracted compound from the Hemp plant – not to be confused with THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol, the primary compound in Marijuana and the ingredient responsible for getting you ‘high’; Our products are lab-tested to certificate that no THC is present.

Cannabidiol is found both in the Cannabaceae genus and naturally in the human body, and research shows it to interact with CB1 and CB2 receptors of the brain – the science and reasons why this is important are outlined more here.

What Does This Have To Do With Sports?

One particularly fascinating area in which research is beginning to explore is the ways in which CBD can positively affect athletic performance, physical fitness and health.

Ask any athlete about the biggest challenge to achieving peak physical fitness and the thing they are likely to comment on is recovery.

Recovery time between, games, between workout sessions can have a huge impact on the speed and effectiveness of an individual’s overall fitness goals.

The lactic acid build-up in the muscle tissue caused by vigorous exertion of any kind can cause stiffness and pain – the post-workout ache – as well as reduce motility between sessions.

Every athlete has their own remedies and treatments they swear by, but predominantly it is this lactic acid build up that creates the barrier to progress.

This is where CBD comes in.

A swell of research over the last decade has meant we now understand that CBD Oil is incredibly effective as both a pain reliever and an inflammation reducer – two direct symptoms of continuous exercise.

In addition to this, CBD has been shown to aid in better sleep and lowering anxiety and stress – two other potential side effects of regular exercise and competitive sporting.

Doping within Sport – Why CBD is ok

What about legal issues?

The bottom line is, there shouldn’t be any.

At least not as of 2018, when the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) removed CBD from the list of prohibited substances for professional athletes.

As an extra measure for peace of mind, we recommend you keep track of your purchases, journal your usage and declare to any manager or coach in writing, that you are taking CBD, which applies to any medication!

It wouldn’t be fair of us to not suggest airing on the side of caution however.

Though we pride ourselves on utilising the strictest laboratory standards in our CBD oil production, the nature of the oil procurement can never be 100% distilled and isolated.

This means even the highest quality CBD product can contain other trace compounds.

Use a poor, uncertified or homemade product, not derived from the Hemp plant and you could land yourself in a great deal of trouble.

We are however 100% confident that our THC-free, Hemp derived CBD oil meets and exceeds legal and industry standards.

Everybody is different, and if this is something you are concerned about or you think that the anxiety of using it will actually have a detrimental effect on your performance, then of course, take a break.

As a benchmark, CBD is broken down by the body and expunged after a period of 5 days of non-use.

Ultimately, CBD oil has proven itself as a positive addition to both those with debilitating illnesses and those looking to improve their recovery and overall health, in a multitude of ways.
